Opus One 2010

"The 2014 Opus One has turned out to be a gorgeous wine. Savory, tightly wound and intensely aromatic, the 2014 is going to need time to unwind, but it looks like it will develop along the more classic vintages here. The tannins are firm but also impeccably balanced. A sleeper wine for the year, the 2014 is shaping up to be a gorgeous wine that will handsomely repay several decades of cellaring. The 2014 is not an obvious Opus One, like the 2010, 2012 or 2013, but over time, I will not be surprised if it challenges or even surpasses some of those vintages. In short, the 2014 is a wine of tension, power and grace."
The 2014 Opus One is another monumental wine from this historic Napa Valley estate. This stunning red is a fantastic blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 2% Malbec, which spent 18 months in new French oak prior to bottling. The result is a wine with remarkable purity, releasing seductive aromas of black fuits, crème de cassis, mocha, tar and spring florals underlined with a well-integrated herbal quality, all coming together to form the absolutely intoxicating bouquet. Beautifully concentrated with remarkable depth, this showcases an impressive range of complex flavors of dark fruits, crème de cassis, roasted coffee and dark chocolate shavings, which all build on the palate. The balance, structure and textural richness take this wine to another level, making it one of the most impressive wines from the vintage. Overall, this is another utterly compelling wine from winemaker Michael Silacci and his team at Opus One, which should continue to impress for decades."

"A glorious perfume of sweet charcoal, truffle, black currants and spice box soars from the glass of the saturated purple-colored 2010 Opus One. The gorgeous aromatics are followed by a beautifully knit, full-bodied red blend (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5.5% Merlot, 5.5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec) displaying lots of spicy black currant fruit, medium to full body, velvety tannins, and not a hard edge to be found. The texture, length and richness are all impressive. This estate has been making great Cabernet-based wines for nearly a decade ... and this is another one. Drink it over the next 20+ years."
